Each November, the healthcare community comes together to recognize Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness, support patients and caregivers, and highlight the importance of pulmonary health. At LSI, our mission aligns closely with this effort: to help clinicians and rehabilitation professionals provide the best care possible for patients living with chronic respiratory and cardiac conditions.
COPD is an umbrella term used to describe a group of progressive lung diseases — most commonly emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The disease makes it difficult to breathe due to damaged airways and reduced airflow. Common symptoms include shortness of breath, chronic cough, wheezing, and fatigue.
According to the CDC, more than 15 million Americans have been diagnosed with COPD, and millions more may have it without knowing. It is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States, yet with the right care and support, patients can manage symptoms and live fulfilling lives.
The Role of Pulmonary Rehabilitation
One of the most effective ways to improve quality of life for people with COPD is through pulmonary rehabilitation. A comprehensive program that combines exercise training, education, and behavior modification. These programs help patients regain strength, improve endurance, and build confidence in managing their condition.
LSI understands the impact that well-designed rehab programs have on both patients and providers. Our cardiopulmonary solutions are built to support clinicians in delivering efficient, data-driven, and patient-centered care. We take pride in helping healthcare teams enhance outcomes through integrated technology and thoughtful workflow design.
Raising Awareness and Reducing Stigma
One of the greatest challenges with COPD is awareness. Many patients ignore early symptoms or assume shortness of breath is a normal part of aging. Public education — especially during COPD Awareness Month — plays a vital role in breaking down those misconceptions.
By sharing knowledge, encouraging screenings, and connecting patients to local pulmonary rehab programs, clinicians and communities can make a real difference.
proud to support the clinicians and rehabilitation specialists who work tirelessly to improve patients’ lives. Every day, we see the impact of innovative pulmonary care — and every November, we’re reminded that awareness is where it all begins.
This month and every month, LSI celebrates the professionals, patients, and advocates who continue to move the field of pulmonary rehabilitation forward. Together, we can empower more people to breathe easier, recover stronger, and live healthier.
